Clean Up with Self-made Cleaners

  • Mix together ½ cup vinegar, ¼ cup baking soda, and 2 gallons of water, and you have an inexpensive, all-purpose cleaner that saves lots of money on product and is much healthier for you!
  • You can save up to $300 a year on cleaning supplies by using what you have in your pantry and not buying expensive and toxic cleaners. For example, white vinegar cuts grease, cornstarch cleans windows and furniture, and isopropyl alcohol disinfects. No need to buy Clorox bleach, Pinesol, or Endust. Cleaning cloths also work well and last several years, and they work without cleansers.
  • You can search on the internet as well for formulas that will attack certain household cleaning problems without having to go out and buy expensive products. Mildew? Use one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts water. Odor in your basement? Slice an onion and leave on a plate in the center of the space for 12 to 24 hours. Need to polish brass? Take a cloth dipped in a vinegar and salt solution.

Don’t spend money in the cleaning aisle again. Do a little research and use what’s in your cupboards. If you must buy a cleaning product, buy it at the Dollar Store. The chemicals are the same there as in the grocery store, but you can buy them for less.
